BUSINESS CONSULTING AND TEAM COACHING

No-nonsense team coaching that rekindles the fire in your team

The power of
your team

A good team can move mountains, but a team out of balance eventually collapses like a house of cards. This does not only affect the team itself. The entire company ultimately experiences the consequences, directly or indirectly. So the question is: How well does your team function?

If you want to excel in business, open and effective communication within a team is indispensable. After all, you want colleagues to have the space to hold each other accountable for behavior, to ask questions, and to connect with each other. This makes the mutual relationship stronger and your team actually becomes a team. When trust in open communication is lacking, it gets in the way of business development and performance.

During my outdoor team coaching, I teach you and your team how to effectively and enjoyably restore or improve that mutual relationship.

`Together in the outdoors

Solving things together

Having a real conversation again

(More) effective communication, increased job satisfaction and better results

Stepping away from the workplace and into nature together changes the rhythm of the team. It allows the delusion of the workday to slowly fade away, clarifies entrenched patterns and encourages colleagues to communicate openly and honestly. After all, in nature you cannot hide behind screens, corporate clothing or job descriptions. This benefits the team because only then will you find out what could be better or different.

Through conversations, practical assignments and evaluations, I teach you how to communicate effectively, how to give and receive feedback and how to deal with difficult situations in the team. It also focuses on what preferred roles exist in the team and how they can be used to activate and inspire colleagues.

The result is a high-performing team that is in its strengths.

Experience is the best teacher; you learn the most by experiencing, by doing. Therefore, my coaching method is based on experiential learning. And where better to do that than in nature?

About Erik Aller, PhD

Personal leadership and the outdoors have always been a common thread in my life. During officer training in the Marine Corps, where I really learned to embrace (personal) leadership, I was pushed to think in terms of possibilities and deal with challenges in every conceivable situation. This has given me a good dose of knowledge and insights that I still apply in my daily life and team coaching.

After a scientific career and ph.D. study, I then went on to work as a director and manager in healthcare. I enjoyed the contact with people, but still wanted to work more outdoors again. That’s why I took two bushcraft year-long courses and specialized in everything related to outdoor living. From primitive fire making to edible and medicinal plants, everything was covered. Again, of course, nature was the focus, but thinking in solutions and communicating clearly with each other were also reflected in these trainings.

Working with people and giving them the best possible breeding ground to develop themselves is what drives me. And as an outdoorsman at heart, I prefer to do this in nature. Whether I am engaged in team coaching, bushcraft or just taking a leisurely walk, nature always gives me the right tools. Therefore, I would like to invite you to experience what this can do for you (and your team). I offer my services in Dutch, German and English.

When I started at CRONIMET Holland b.v. a year ago, as Managing Director I was looking for a coach who could objectively support me in implementing measures to improve cooperation between our employees.

I was concerned that my colleagues might not get involved and that an external coach would not understand the “DNA” of our company and therefore could not address our individual needs. On the contrary, colleagues participated with interest and quickly opened up.

The preparation Erik and I put into the project allowed him to respond very well to our business philosophy.

He turned us from individuals into a team. He has paved the way for collaboration and trust, and colleagues are taking on more responsibility in their daily routines.

From the beginning, there was an open and trusting atmosphere. Erik did not offer ready-made modules, but we worked together on appropriate ideas and their implementation. This also always ensured that we found solutions to our issues that were tailored to the needs of our business.

In my role as treatment coordinator at Trubendorffer Maastricht, I contacted Erik to organize a team day.

Beforehand, I had a good preliminary discussion with Erik about everything. Erik listened well to what our team needed and asked good questions to find out more information in order to have good preparation. We had a super fun and connecting day. Our group spirit was strengthened by literally doing something different together again. By understanding each other and the patterns of the team, you become a better collaborative team. This is a wonderful starting point that we are going to build on.

If you want to have a fun and educational day with your team, I definitely recommend contacting Erik. We have become a lot closer together as a team which makes us work better and nicer together. I find that invaluable.

Before Erik invited us for the first coaching, all the team members were uncertain because they did not know what was coming at them. The team was skeptical at first, fearing what might happen if they told their interlocutor what moved them and also angered them. Even during the initial coaching, Erik’s empathetic manner allowed him to convey a sense of familiarity and safety, which invited some employees to open up.

Thanks to his humorous and appreciative approach, the team found it easy to open up to the coaching. He managed to achieve that one could look at some situations from a different perspective. Particularly positive was that through his methodology he “brought problems to the surface” and did not prescribe solutions, but that one had to deal with them and find them for himself. In this way, it was also possible to discover certain patterns of behavior in oneself.

Because as a manager I supervise the team in its daily work, I was able to recognize the developments of individual employees well. This coaching was also very helpful for me, as I was also able to reassess the issues and reflect for myself.

For the team and me, this coaching was a token of appreciation and enrichment, thanks in no small part to our organization that gave us this opportunity. We still have a road ahead of us, but we will face it stronger thanks to Erik.

Personally, I found working with Erik very enriching because he clearly identifies problems and provokes thought. Erik has a very pleasant, empathetic and appreciative way of dealing with people. I say THANK YOU, Erik!!! Also on behalf of the team and I am already looking forward to our individual coaching.

During the coaching I learned how incredibly important it is to align expectations, on both sides, in order to achieve the desired end result together : on the sender’s side as well as on the receiver’s side, client and performer.
Communication is a big part of my job. Sometimes this makes you think you are communicating well, but is your message really getting through as it was intended? And do you really hear what the other person is saying?
Erik is able to dynamically bring out the essence through a wide range of group assignments. Because of his experience as a director in healthcare and in the rough outback, he knows exactly how to strike the human chord that is needed to learn to understand and be understood and – not unimportantly – to convert that into individually responsible behavior.. Wow!

From DC Klinieken Rotterdam and Schiedam, I asked Erik to provide team coaching for our front desk team. As the coordinator and operations manager of this team, I noticed resistance to this coaching. I was afraid that team members would clam up and not dare to speak freely during this track. During the first day of this track, I saw the trust within the team grow, with clear differences between the morning and afternoon. An atmosphere of trust was created by Erik that made the team members dare to come out of their shells and open up quickly. I noticed more and more laughter as the day progressed.

This training helped this team experience being heard. They were given space to say what they had to say and space was given for this without judgment. At the same time, Erik ensured that the conversations were constructive and on the right track. About working with Erik, I would say that he has no judgment about what is said, but he strengthens you in making a choice, whatever that choice may be.

Last fall, our Quality & Safety Team hosted a team day with a return afternoon led by Erik. Our team was newly formed in the past year and we wanted to get off to a good start. We certainly succeeded: by working together in multiple group assignments outside in nature, we learned from each other how we work and what we need to achieve the best results together.

By receiving a concrete DISC profile on the one hand and sharing it with each other, and on the other hand by being outside in the woods enjoying ourselves, we learned a lot about ourselves and each other in a pleasant environment. Since these team days, we know how to find each other better and make better use of each other’s qualities. Erik leads team coaching in a respectful way and makes you think in the process, very valuable.

Especially because of the expertise and guidance of bushcraft expert Erik Aller. From the first moment, the calm that Erik exudes is contagious and the group of teenagers from scouting chaplain Berix enjoying an adventurous weekend are attentive.

No childish alignment, but claim to self-responsibility. How do I correctly pass a sharp knife to someone with an eye for safety? How do I turn a branch into good firewood? How do I make fire with lack of resources? How do I communicate with my team? It all passes by during the morning. The expertise Erik possesses he demonstrates guiding and coaching. Wherever they can, they should do it themselves.

At instruction, they hang on his every word and want to know how Erik knows all this. The calm that Erik continues to exude throughout the activity as a facilitator and expert is of great value on the energy and thus the participants’ own confidence. It also provides constant alertness to physical and mental safety.

In an active manner, Erik instructed the group, motivated them, put them to work themselves and provided them with a tasty lunch prepared over home-made and maintained fires. The boys and girls almost unanimously commented after the weekend that this element was very cool.

In this activity, Erik mentored a younger audience. I would confidently recommend Erik if you want to get started. Getting started with yourself or your team. Getting started via outdoor stimulation. And “to work” it will be. Erik’s expertise in this area will provide challenging and surprising offerings. Out of the comfort zone! The process this creates and the questions that will then be asked will begin to create movement. For yourself, or for a team. If you want the very best for your team choose…his name cannot be a coincidence…Erik Aller.
